Alexander Elder is is mentioned on the family grave in North Merchiston Cemetery, Edinburgh. The inscription reads “… William Elder Pte Royal Scots Killed on the Somme 18.11.1916 aged 19 years. Alexander Elder Pte Royal Scots killed at High Wood 22.7.1916 aged 22 years … ”
He was a son of Mrs. Catherine Elder, of 7, Wardlaw St., Gorgie Rd., Edinburgh, and died at the age of 22. He was employed, as a painter, with Mr Martin, Roseburn Terrace
As we do not have a photograph of Alexander we attach one of the gravestone.
His name was on the WW1 memorial of North Merchiston Church along with that of his younger brother, William.
