- Biographical information
John Duffy was the son of John and Agnes Duffy, and lived at 20 Wardlaw Place.
St Michael’s Church magazine (June 1943) states that “John is alive but a prisoner-of-war in the Far East.” March 1944 states that “John Duffy is in the hands of the Japanese”. January 1946 states that “John died in a Japanese Prisoner-of-war camp. Although his death occurred a considerable time ago, confirmation was not received until last month. A liberated POW visited Mrs Duffy immediately he reached this country and conveyed the sad news. The War Office has now confirmed it. John was a member of the Boys’ Brigade.”
He died at the age of 24 and his name is on the WW2 memorial of St Michael’s Church.
