George Ure Russell Downie was the fourth son of Andrew Downie (Haymarket Cycle & Motor Depot, Haymarket Terrace) and Elizabeth L. Munro Downie, of 1, West Stanhope Place, Edinburgh.
He died at the age of 17, having been a motor cycle despatch rider. He attended Daniel Stewart’s College.
His name is on the WW1 memorial of St Michael’s Church.
