Denis Brierley was the son of James B. and Mary Brierley; nephew of Miss M. I. Swayne, of Edinburgh. St Michael’s Church magazines (January & April 1943) state that “Denis was first reported missing or taken as a prisoner-of-war, but it is later suggested that he is lost.”July 1943 states “Denis Brierley presumed to have been killed when reported as missing.” He died at the age of 25. His name is on the WW2 memorial of St Michael’s Church.
