James Anderson Smart was the son of George Watson Smart and Helen Smart, of 4, Murieston Terrace, Edinburgh. His brother was John who also died.
He served with the 1st battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders and was attached to the Light Trench Mortar Battery.
He was 39 when he died.
His name is on the WW1 memorial of St Michael’s Church.
