STUART MONTGOMERY has been Musical Director at St. Michael’s Parish Church since 1992. Over the past twenty-five years music has played a substantial part in the church services. Orchestral, choral and solo recitals have featured regularly and on occasion Stuart’s performances have been accompanied by the Springwell Golden Voices Choir. Every style of music has featured from classical to jazz, country and western, to Scottish and folk traditions. We are always looking for players to perform in our church.
The church organ was originally built in 1895 by Brinley & Foster of Sheffield; the completed first version comprised 2 manuals with 22 stops. It has been overhauled four times during its long lifetime, the last occasion being 1986 when the work was carried out by Rushworth & Dreaper. Nowadays this grand instrument continues to be maintained by Forth Pipe Organs. St. Michael’s also boasts a fine Reid-Sohn grand piano, new in 2000, and this is much admired by all who come to play. All the major works by Bach, Handel, Franck and other revered composers sound splendid in the church’s superb acoustic.
Naturally, Sunday services are full of music at St. Michael’s.
